TPC Myrtle Beach: A Tour-Caliber Challenge You Can Play

As the golf world turns its attention to TPC Sawgrass and The Players Championship, let’s talk about our favorite TPC layout – the one located here in Myrtle Beach.

The Tournament Players Club (TPC) network consists of 30 courses across the U.S., and by every measure, TPC Myrtle Beach is among the best. Golf Digest recently ranked it as the seventh best TPC course, just ahead of Harding Park, the host of the 2020 PGA Championship.

The Tom Fazio-Lanny Wadkins design will provide a Tour-level test on your next Myrtle Beach golf trip. But the real question is: what does all this mean for your next round at TPC Myrtle Beach?

A day at TPC isn’t just a round of golf
There are expectations that extend beyond birdies and bogeys at a Tour-branded property and TPC Myrtle Beach exceeds them. From a practice facility that is on the short list of the area’s best, to a locker room built to accommodate the game’s best players, the TPC experience begins when you arrive on property and doesn’t end until your departure.

So, how is the course?
The short answer is great. TPC Myrtle Beach delivers a Tour-quality challenge while remaining enjoyable for recreational golfers who play from the right tees and take their medicine when necessary. The fairways offer plenty of room, but are lined by Carolina pines throughout the round, and while conditions at all courses vary throughout the year, TPC is typically in outstanding shape.

Front 9 or Back 9, what do I need to know?
Take advantage of the primo range at TPC, because the opening nine brings the heat. Holes three and four are both 400+ yard par 4s (all distances are from the white tees), No. 5 is a 133-yard par 3, but it requires a delicate shot over water to a devilish green. That’s all before you get to No. 9, a 445-yard par 4 (pictured right) that represents the course’s toughest test.

The back nine isn’t a pushover, but the 277-yard 12th hole offers the opportunity for birdie and the 467-yard 14th is the course’s shortest par 5. Again, nobody is saying it’s soft, but opportunities are easier to come by down the stretch.

What holes will you tell your friends about?
Two holes define the finish at TPC Myrtle Beach: the knee-knocking par-3 17th and the dramatic, risk-reward 18th. The 17th (pictured left below) plays from an elevated tee box to a peninsula green surrounded by water on the three sides. It’s a sweat-inducing tee shot and if you bail out to the left, your play out of the sand, to a green that runs towards the water, is equally stressful. The par 5 18th is unforgettable. Whether or not you go for the green in two, every player must decide how aggressively to play the second shot. The result will often determine whether you leave the course smiling.

Is TPC Myrtle Beach a public course?
Yes, it’s 100 percent public. Whether you want to book a tee time at TPCMyrtleBeach.com or MyrtleBeachGolfTrips.com, you can do so directly or TPC can be booked as part of a multitude of packages, including the Founders Group All-Inclusive offer. TPC Myrtle Beach is highly accessible. If you are looking to play a top 100 caliber course that has challenged the likes of Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa and Tom Watson, among many others, TPC Myrtle Beach should be on your very short list.
